Chilling details about the days that followed Gabby
Petito's disappearance have been revealed in a new Netflix documentary.
Yesterday (February 17), American Murder: Gabby Petito dropped
on Netflix; a three-part
docu-series that looks into the final days of the late 22-year-old.
In summer 2021, Gabby and her fiancé Brian Laundrie
embarked on a trip across America after purchasing a van to live in.
The pair first started dating in 2019, with Brian going on to pop the question just over a year later.
In September 2021, Gabby was reported missing by
her parents after she
hadn't been in communication with them for several days - something that was
unusual for her.
They tried to reach out to Brian to see what was going
on, but their efforts were in vain. They then learnt that Brian had returned to
his parents home in Florida in
the van (which was registered under Gabby's name) without her.
It wasn't long until Brian became a prime suspect in
Gabby's disappearance, and police began
to look into his movements in the days that followed his fiancée's last known
location.
The couple were caught on CCTV camera at a Whole Foods
store in Wyoming on August 27.

The following day, police pieced together that Brian had
hiked from Spread Creek, where he'd been camping with Gabby, to the Colter Bay
area.
Then, on August 29, cell phone data showed that Brian
made several phone calls to his parents, one with his mom, Roberta, being
almost an hour long.
Records showed that after the 55 minute-long
conversation, Brian's father Christopher contacted an attorney.
The parents and their son went on to have several back
and forth phone calls with each other in the hours that followed. These calls
took place three weeks before Gabby's body was found.
In court documents filed last year, Brian's parents
shared what they allegedly discussed with their son on that day.

Reportedly Brian told him parents that Gabby was 'gone'
and he expressed to his father that he may need a lawyer - but he wouldn't tell
him why when asked, CNN reported.
At this point, Roberta admitted that the idea that her
son had killed Gabby 'probably went through [her] mind'.
Adding to the crypticness of the situation, American
Murder: Gabby Petito reveals that after the calls with his parents,
Brian proceeded to send text messages between his and Gabby's phones as if she
was the one replying.
"The activity between the two phones was almost
instantaneous," FBI agent Loretta Bush says in the documentary.
"Brian was holding both phones and talking directly
to himself. It was apparent that he was trying to create an alibi."
American Murder: Gabby Petito is now
streaming on Netflix.
